Beware Columbia State Community College, Columbia, TN 0800 LS Math Class!
Beware Columbia State Community College, Columbia, TN 0800 LS Math Class!
CSCC and the State have bundled basic algebra, College algebra and some college geometry in one bundle. There are 3 comp modules that have to be passed by 3 months before going onto 0802. LS Math. Once you have passed these two LS Math courses only than will you go to your core math course for your degree. The 0800 Comp 1 test, homework is a nightmare! Reason is that on the comp 1 test and homework there is 200 – 400 homework problems that you will need to somewhat memorize. This test has everything that is mentioned above. The Student is also not allowed to use any type of calculator on the Comp 1 test and must all be done by memory, if you don’t pass the 0800 class the first time you will have to take the class again and start all homework studies where you left off for the first time. This class is also supposed to be a self-paced and self taught class. This is the problem! This is not an online class; you must show up to class, which is 10% of your grade. So when you have 20 in a class at different places it becomes very hard for a teacher/teachers to teach the class all at one time.
Also the 0800 and 0802 classes don’t count toward your GPA which means that you’re paying just for training. The class is $400, if you don’t pass another $400 and so one. If you pass the 0800 class you go to 0802 another $400, if you don’t pass another $400 until you pass. Once you pass 0800 and 0802 than you pay $400 for your core class for your major. If you have any type of learning disabilities (i.e.) Dyslexia, A.D.D etc you will need to be tested and show that you have these disabilities. Which I have done! The only thing that you are compensated for is more time. To use a calculator you will need to be tested for Dyscalculia to be compensated and can use a calculator. I was tested for math, however because my records doesn’t have the word Dyscalculia the state of TN and CSCC would not compensate. If you have and disabilities make sure you are tested and for Math have Dyscalculia in your records!
