The Zendrive Pedal by Hermida Technology is one of the closest if not the closest pedal I have come across that nails the Robben Ford/Larry Carlton Overdrive tones. This pedal has never left my pedal board thus far. The way I have it set up is like so: The Zendrive is the first pedal that hits my amplifier's input. Than I will either go straight from my guitar into the input of the Zendrive Pedal or will run the Zendrive input to my chain of pedals. I have found that if I set the volume of Zendrive pedal to 10 this gives more of a break up to my tube amp preamp section.
I than set the gain around 12 -1:00, Voice to 11:00, Tone varies from 10 -12:00
I than use my guitar, switched to the bridge Humbucker. This is for me works best to get the vibe of some Robben Ford tones. I will also use the neck Humbucker for more of a Carlton Vibe.
I have tried the Zendrive using a Fender Twin and really is killer! However my Favorite amp with the Zendrive is though some type of Plexi. I use my Bogner XTC which I set to Plexi mode. The Plexi for me gives a little more clean gain with slight breakup with out the Zendrive on. Than when I turn on the Zendrive Pedal on, It gets more Dynamics and Harmonics for the preamp tubes. This amp really is a smoker and if you get a chance to try the Zendrive pedal out you won't be disappointed!
