will never buy another Taylor guitar.(so much for warranty)
Jan 28, 2009
Hi everyone,

Thought I would share my experience with my Taylor Acoustic with. I brought my Taylor 414 Acoustic to one of my techs for the usually maintenance. My tech that is excellent told me that my Taylor 414 had some neck issues, seems that from the 12th fret on the neck started twisting around the G, B, and E strings. My tech told me to call Taylor to see if they would take care of me since the guitar is under Limited lifetime warranty to the Original owner, which is myself.

So I called Taylor shop and explained what was the deal. They were very nice and told me I had to take it to one of there warranty places. I found own in Franklin, TN and did that. The Tech at the warranty shop told me the same thing as my tech did. The neck is twisting and causing every note when playing the G,B,E strings to buzz. The warranty shop called Taylor and told them that it need major work and my have to replace the neck.
So everything is going good so far. I ship my Taylor 414 to the Taylor shop. It get’s to Taylor in a few days and than get a call from Taylor saying that my guitar has arrived and there will be a tech that will call you when he gets to my guitar. That’s cool with me; I know these things take time. So no problem right. Wrong!

After a week I get a call from Taylor tech. He’s telling me that there’s nothing wrong with my neck. I said that’s imposable, your warranty people even said that there is a twist in the neck. Here we go having a pissing contest. After the Tech looks at it again tells me there is a minor twist and can be taken care of with a standard setup, which will be no charge. Well you know how it is, your not there and I said fine go a head. Now I’m patched through customer service to get all the paper work done and to pay for return shipping. Now here comes another issue. Customer Service person says would you like our full set up for a $100. I said excuse me! For a $100 I can get the neck shimmed, frets dressed, new strings and setup. I’m what in the world is this now? I’m like my guitar is under warranty to have the neck fixed!

I told them no thanks on that and that was the end of our phone call. Now it’s another 2 weeks and I get a call from Taylor saying my Acoustic has been fixed and shipped. I was very grateful for the phone call telling me that my guitar has been fixed. After a few days I get my guitar in excellent condition. Open the case and start playing it, the same thing is still wrong with the guitar. I site down the neck and nothing has been done except polish the frets and minor setup. I once again took it to my tech to confirm this. My tech says man they didn’t fix the problem. Well I’m as mad as a rattlesnake now!

I’m over the whole BS of Taylor shop and found a Master luthier. Brought my guitar to him and had him fix it. He did the job and now my 414 sounds and plays kick ass! A $100 well spent. I wanted to share this because it seem if you pay on top of your warranty at Taylor they might give you what you want. I just got a Taylor Newspaper, which inside say that they are now charging for setups ranging a $100 - $500.
Needless to say I’ll never buy another Taylor anything!

Mr. Taylor the leaf has fallen’ very far from the tree and I hope you’ll correct this problem to those who send their hard earned money on your guitars!

Keep rockin’ everyone,

Chris “Nashvillerocker” DiMella
